In many instances think of a link like a marketer would. That is make it a call for action. This is what they can call the seducible moment where people commit to wanting to know more.

Te other thing to remember is that links show up in the text as a different colour so they are like headings that tell the facts and enable people to quickly scan through. Therefore the words need to serve another purpose, similar to a heading.

No objective references, I'm afraid. We find that "Learn more about" sounds
trite. "Visit..." sounds like the user could get sucked through the
computer to the location, and "Find out more about" seems to work well.

But then again, it all depends on your company's public persona. Some
companies like 37 Signals, Tumblr, and Hootsuite can get away with pretty
funky calls to action.
