I'm in the same boat as Paul, except I have been using Photoshop Elements
for the last few years when I discovered it would do everything I want for a
fraction of the cost of PS.

I use Photoshop all the time. Two-thirds of my documentation is for
hardware. Just today I had to take a photo of a part under less-than-ideal
conditions, then adjust exposure, blank out the office equipment in the
background, and remove the piece of tape which says "demo unit."
