Yeah, they always say that. Because they're smart enough to know that if they say otherwise, you'll ask them for the additional samples. :-)
Ask them about the (sparse) sample code:
"Has this sample code been tested?"
-- "Oh, I'm sure it'll work."
What you find out is that it was an initial prototype based on the earliest specs, now hopelessly obsolete. It was never tested on ANY platform, let alone a recent one.
