For the most part, in my training document that I'm creating, the labs are separate files, to be performed after the lecture is done.In the printed documents, we're probably putting the labs under a separate tab heading. This will create some back-and-forthing for the students during the course, but will leave them with a mini-textbook in the lecture notes that will be consistent with the outline that is published in several other places (in addition to the coursework following this outline, there will be a 37-chapter text book sold separately that will also follow this outline).
The labs are done in a special virtual environment that the students will not have access to after the course is over.
In one lecture, however, there are 3 short labs, interspersed with the lecture.
Should I leave these labs in the lecture notes? Or put them in the lab section of the course book?
In previous lectures, the notation for moving to a lab is a H1 header. In this last section, however, if I make the note saying "do lab here" a H1 header, it implies that the subsequent H2 headers are secondary to those labs, whereas they're really just subsets of the previous H1 header that is not a lab.
Previous labs are pretty much self-directed. Some of the mini-labs that are interspersed with the lecture are more of the kind of thing where the students look at something and the instructor points stuff out to them, rather than the student actually doing anything on their own.
Lastly, we have the notation to move to a lab at the end of a lecture only in the instructor notes. Should there also be a note in the student version that says "do lab here"? if so, what should I say there, other than H1: Lab 3 text: "go to lab 3 in your notebook."
