I seem to believe that the noun "install" was earlier but only in tech-ish writing and (more likely) in ad-hoc "install hints."

Are we seeing evolution of the language, or only its disintegration, when we encounter the spoken "whuhsoash" ("Please tell me your Social Security number,") or "puhscripshun" (either subscription or prescription), or one from very long ago, as told to me by my mother, the dress the lady across the street had bought. It had, the lady announced, "Seagrams" on it. (Sequins.) Our current day rivals Sheridan.
