Why is that so interesting? Book design is the domain of the publisher, not the author, although very important and influential authors may have some say in the design. Besides which, neither author was even alive when the 4th edition was published in 2000. (In fact, professor Strunk had been a dozen years in the grave when the *first* edition of Strunk & White was published in 1959.)

It would be much more interesting--and much more significant--if CMS did not follow the start on recto conventions, since that style guide does deal with how books are arranged and composed, a subject which is far outside the writing style and usage rules in Strunk & White.
