Craig,
I wouldn't panic about this. Mozilla announced "the end of the line" for
Thunderbird in July 2012, and I just upgraded Thunderbird to v24 a week or
two ago. At the time, Mozilla basically said there weren't any new features
coming to Thunderbird, mostly because email was a mature technology. I
think plugins are still being made and released, and all the other usual
security updates and the like happen regularly. Here's a blog I posted at

That said, I'm always open to hearing about new mail clients, if anyone
knows of another Windows client.
