What I want to know is, who gets the blame for popularizing "app"? Did Apple do that?
I thought Facebook was first in 2007. Last time this discussion made the go-around, a couple of people provided details about app versus application.
Apple tried to trademark app store in 2011 and sued Amazon for trademark infringement. I guess that didn't work for them because now everyone has an app store or appstore.
