I got my refurbished Dell Latitude E-6400 last year for about $260 including shipping. I don't remember how much I paid for the Square Trade warranty but I think it was something like $80 for a three-year extended warranty.

Best Regards,

Mike

Are these refurbished laptops much cheaper than a new Lenovo G 580, for

I think it's better to buy a new Lenovo or Asus than a used Dell.
Asus X 501 is another interesting laptop to consider.

I'm with Robert on this one. I've also been buying refurbished Dell
Latitudes... I'm using an E6400 right now. I've purchased through
outlet.dell.com in the past but this one came from Red Tag, a subsidy of
ubid.com. I purchased an extended warranty from squaretrade.com. I have
several docking stations but bought them from eBay... a buddy of mine just
ordered a used one for a Dell Latitude he got at the same time as I got
mine. The docking station (with power supply) was $45 including shipping.

Best Regards,

Mike

I've been buying refurbished Dell Latitudes (not Inspirons) from the
Business section of outlet.dell.com for years. I get the longest
service contract and replace the laptop when it expires, just in case,
but they last a lot longer than that. My understanding is that
refurbished Dells have to pass more rigorous tests than new ones.

My most recent purchase was an E5420 last March, $499 for 4GB RAM,
250GB HD, 8X DVD writer, plus $100 to extend the warranty to four
years. You can get a nice dock for $160.

I'm still using Windows 7, Windows 8 seems like it may be skippable,
another Vista. I use Win32 for compatibility.

Whirlers,

I'm in the market for a refurbished laptop running Windows 8.1, or an OS
that is easily upgradeable to 8.1.
