In my experience, when I have a lot of direct contact with a
developer, it's usually because they don't have a lot of users and/or
I'm significantly more sophisticated than most users at describing and
troubleshooting bugs. The Mac is a much smaller market.

Recently I've been in pretty close touch with the developers of the
Confluence plug-ins I use.
