Hmm... According to Atlassian's own wiki, the user can only sort tables in
view mode, not in the editor. That seems like a rather nasty bug.

Is Confluence smart enough to strip out the extra attributes (like
talk-marker and class) when you sort the table in View mode, view source,
and paste back into Confluence?

<table class="confluenceTable"><tbody><tr><th talk-marker="1"
> class="confluenceTh">property</th><th talk-marker="2"
> class="confluenceTh">type</th><th
> talk-marker="3"class="confluenceTh">default value</th><th colspan="1"
> talk-marker="4" class="confluenceTh">notes</th></tr><tr>...

It sounds to me like you'd have use a combination of Firefox and a text
editor that performs regexp replacements. I choose Firefox because once the
table is rendered, you could select the table in the browser, right click,
and choose "View selection source" to see the rendered output.

If you can just paste that source back into Confluence, you're golden. If
not, then you may have to use a regexp replace command to strip out the
extra attributes to return your table to a raw table.

It sounds like a valuable feature to work into the editor. You should
submit that as a feature request.

As an aside, have you researched any Table plugins?
