Indeed. If you hint that you are anywhere near the "45-year-old" limit that they are not supposed to "discriminate" over, then their safer procedure is to ignore you. I knew of someone who felt he was being rejected as "overqualified" because of his PhD. He didn't omit it, but put it under "Hobbies."
