I occasionally wonder if there is some way of making PPT slides vanish completely. To me they seem to be a crutch in need of a broken leg. Back in the dark ages there were two kind of technical talks:

1. Riveting and focused, possibly with slides showing graphs and diagrams. Sometimes a chalkboard.

2. Rambling or unnecessary, with handouts containing the outline, or with "overhead" slides of the outline that were completely illegible from further than the second row of seats.

The second kind has been replaced by PPT slides. Now the people in the back rows can read the slides, but to what purpose? Perhaps they allow the unprepared speaker to remember what he was going to say?

Sorry for the cynicism. I'm afraid it's all I have today.
