One of the new questions to ask would be, "Open layouts with C-shaped cubes, or real offices?"
Of course, I don't know of any firms that actually offer real offices to anyone but upper management.

I interviewed at a company once where they had these odd desk-pods: three large U-shaped tables put together in a small cluster. Three or four people sat at each table with no separation between them. Seeing the too-open layout gave me mild panic attacks. I like to work with others, but I also like to sit in my cube quietly. Alone.
I was very glad when I didn't get that job.

It's funny this is being discussed. My office building is going to the open concept. Even though I could take or leave it, a lot of my coworkers are pitching fits. I think the biggest complaint they have is that they don't have their own space (meaning a 3.5 wall cube). We are going to the c-shaped cubes as well. There are a few of the older fellows in my office that tend to have a few siestas during the day that are pretty unhappy.
I figure I'll put on my noise cancelling headset, crank the music, and do my job.
