Did the program manager give a reason she advised PC instead of Mac? Sometimes it’s just plain old (and I do mean old) ignorance about mac’s compatibility.
I agree: it’s all about the display. If your eyes like the Mac’s Retina display, just buy it. You can run any software you’ll need as a writer that your work mates will run on their PC. And if you must run a specific PC-only application you can install Windows on the Mac and do just that.
