The elliptical trainers I've seen that would work with a desk seem
like a joke to me.
My treadmill seems safe to me. I walk about 2 mph and in the 18 months
I've been using it have not fallen, though I keep the space behind it
clear just in case.
I have a LifeSpan DT3 treadmill paired with a Workrite Proliftix
Adjustable hand-cranked table with a 72"x30" top. The table doesn't go
quite high enough when I'm standing on the treadmills so I kludged a
little riser from an Ikea shelf and furniture legs.
