I assume that this only applies to hourly work? I assume one can be a salaried employee and write software documentation? Or by definition, based on California Labor Code Â515.5(b)(5), if you do the kind of work described there do you have to be hourly/non-exempt?

Pardon my ignorance. I've been working in other areas of high tech the last several years (until being laid off last July) and it's been a number of years since I've been directly involved with tech pubs.

I have a great job in the software business and it was my choice whether to go staff or 1099. Which previous jobs I've liked and disliked correlates not at all with my staff / contractor status.
