I've found several useful white papers, templates, and sample documents on various IT-related topics on a site called IT Business Edge (http://www.itbusinessedge.com/). They have a variety of newsletters and reports you can subscribe to, and lots of downloadable sample documents. Signing up is free. The only problem I had was getting deluged with additional information I didn't ask for or need.
Another resource I've used, and would recommend is TradePub.com (http://www.tradepub.com/) which has all kinds of industry-specific magazines and white papers, and other resources provided by companies looking for sales leads. I've gotten follow-up phone calls from companies whose materials I downloaded, but I explained that I was a tech writer seeking to increase my understanding of a particular area, either because it was related to what I was working on, or just because it interested me and I like to keep up with current tech trends.
