Back in the DEC days my wife said that exact same thing to me. One day she
came to my office so I took her to meet the Uber Boss of the doc
department. We went into Armen's office and the first thing we saw was a
pair of down-at-heel cowboy boots with holes in the soles on the top of his
table. He stood up and the overalls he wore only had one hole in them, but
the long-sleeve t-shirt had a few more. And his sweat-stained leather
cowboy hat was sitting on his credenza. After we left I told her that there
was no way I was ever going to go anywhere in that company because she kept
throwing out all my good clothes before they got good enough to impress the
boss!
