Here are some activities that have expanded my role as a technical writer
beyond just documentation.
<> Created or updated Visio drawings to reflect the current and future state
of the network architecture
<> Gathered requirements and conducted knowledge transfer sessions that
resulted in four training modules
<> Developed online help systems that featured step-by-step tutorial videos
<> Performed quality assurance testing in order to improve the back end of a
graphic user interface (GUI)

Subject: Question about expanding the role of technical writers
Good afternoon and Happy Friday, Whirlers!
For everyone on this list who works as a technical writer or communicator,
what else are you involved with other than documentation?
For instance, if you are do software testing, sing out. Or, if you are
involved with marketing writing, sing out. If you make how-to videos, don't
be shy.
Don't spare the specifics, either. I want the nitty-gritty.
I ask because my manager wants us to think about expanding our individual
roles.
Cordially,
Craig Cardimon | Senior Technical Writer
Marketing Systems Group
