Hi Monique -

I was about to send you link to a recent IBM PDF showing internal
hyperlinks formatted in a blue box. In Adobe Reader and Acrobat Pro
the text itself is neither coloured nor underlined, just a thin blue
border above and below and to the left and right of the text.

IMO this works well enough without being a problem for legibility.
However, testing showed that this formatting was not displayed when
the PDF was opened in Google Chrome or Edge. There's just a change to
the pointer on mouseover.

So before you change your link formatting you might want to find out
how the end users will be viewing it (Adobe Reader or browser plug-in)
and test that they will see what you expect them to see.
