Like others, I haven't worked with RH for quite a while, but your pain
reminds me of my experience the last time I did.
I had a newer version of RH (I think 8) than what was used to create the
original materials I was supposedly updating (I think it was in Webhelp).
For some unknown reason, the older files wouldn't load. We never figured
out what was going on, except that there was some incompatibility. (And
because there was too much to do, the material never did get updated.)
So, although I don't know where the problems rested, it seems that in some
cases one might encounter problems trying to work with older files.
The only thing I could think of at the time was to redo the document. Kind
of like what Robert and William are suggesting.
