I would ask what the new writer would be expected to accomplish within the first 30, 60 and 90 days on the job.

As far as salary is concerned, don't bring salary up at all. If they do, ask them what their range for the position is. In a large company, that range will most likely be chiseled into a mountain and unmovable, regardless of what added value you may believe you bring.
