Can you use a utility such as HTTrack to make an unprotected local
copy of the site?

That's a really cool idea! I didn't know about utilities like this, so thanks for the info!

And happily I've already got Homebrew on my Mac, so it was really easy to install.

But... I'm having a similar difficulty as when I tried Prince, and so now I'm wondering if the problem is that my username for the site is my email address, and so contains the "@" symbol. And for HTTrack, the "@" is a delimiter: "username:password -at- the-website-url". So no magic solution, but this seems a really good approach.
