I don't care what any authoritative source says, "troubleshot" sounds like what little kids do when they apply familiar grammar to a new situation:

"I lighted the candle"

"Troubleshot" sounds less awkward/seems grammatically appropriate.

Oh, and I just checked a couple of credible on-line dictionaries; they all say "troubleshot" is the past tense.
