Hi Everyone;

I wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of your help with this, especially the links to the online resources. The reason for me asking for this was that there is a discussion raging around the place I work (there are only two technical writers and we're both contractors) about how to illustrate documents. I guess we both look rather untrustworthy. In any case, I thought it would be helpful to have an online source that we could point people to and say, "this is the way to do these things."

By-the-way, the environment is Word and SharePoint and the documents are old-timey books in PDF.

Thanks again everyone, you all just made my life a little easier (I hope).

Carter

Google has style guidance for using images in web documents. The introduction and first heading for using images can apply to printed documents and it reflects modern views.

Here is an excerpt from a technical writing text book that reflects classic views.

Here's a tutorial but I don't know the utility of this instruction for your purposes.

And this one from Penn State is part instruction and part guide.

While there is not a definitive standard for using images, there are general best practices that can be inferred from the linked guides.

Hi All;

Happy Friday.

Would anyone know of a set of standards and/or best practices for using screen captures in user manuals/guides that they could point me to? There seems to be a /discussion/ where I am working and I would like to be able to point to one or more standards and say, "Let's use one of these . . ." I'm hoping to reduce the volume of discussion.

Thank you everyone.

Carter
