Hi David,

Which Office do you have currently, and why do you want to upgrade?

Iâve been using the same Office 2010 version since a previous company let
me buy a home user license for $11 many moons ago... and it runs fine on
Windows 10. I did join my dadâs Office365 family license to upgrade
Mac:Office from 2011 to meet current standards. That was more for
convenience so I can open MS documents without having to start my VM to run
Windows. Mac OSâ PDF output still doesnât create bookmarks from headings,
so if I need to author docs in Word I still output from the Windows version.

I wrote a complex macro in Excel 2010 that miraculously still works on my
friendâs computer using Excel 2007. The only thing that doesnât work is the
ribbon UI that I need to create a different way for 2007.

The only difference between 365 and âinstalledâ (technically you install
both of them) is that 365 is a subscription service that promises continual
upgrades, and whatever theyâre offering for standalone will be left alone
until you decide to upgrade again.

So the question is less about âshould I get an installed version or 365
(since you would commonly be installing apps in both cases) and more if at
the end of the day, you really need all the extra features, that even many
advanced user donât see and donât use.

Cheers,
-Tony
