They are reading a mammoth text by Michael Markel called _Technical
Writing: Situations and Strategies_ and they are working in teams on
four projects
1. Designing the safety features of a social hall, getting permits, assuaging
fears in the community, etc.
2. Inspecting the college for compliance for the Americans with Disabilities
Act provisions
3. Inspecting for vulnerability to terrorist attack--this is the other end
of Manhattan from the World Trade Center
4. Designing, determining student/faculty opinion, pricing, etc., etc. for
a parking garage on campus.
The real value of this exercise is the working and writing in groups.
They also have to defend their project decisions to pen pals at the University
of Regensburg in Germany. They also have individual papers to produce.
It's fun. Peace, David
