40TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE, POST-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS, AND EXPOSITION
June 6-10, 1993, Loews Anatole Hotel, Dallas, Texas, USA
PIC ACTIVITIES ABOUND AT STC ANNUAL CONFERENCE
This year's annual conference offers no dearth of professional interest
committee (PIC) related activities, including PIC meetings, a new PIC-based
networking luncheon, and a first-time-ever all-PIC reception.
Each of the seven operating PICs is planning to meet at the conference:
* Advanced Technology--Monday, June 7, 10:30-12:00 (RT 2E).
* Consulting and Independent Contracting--Monday, June 7, 2:30-3:30 (MG 3E).
* Education and Research--Tuesday, June 8, 8:30-10:00 (ET 5F).
* Environmental, Safety, and Health Communication--Wednesday, June 9,
8:30-12:00 (MG 9D).
* International Technical Communication--Tuesday, June 8, 10:30-12:00 (MG 7F).
* Quality--Tuesday, June 8, 2:00-3:30 (MG 7F).
* Usability--Tuesday, June 8, 4:00-5:30 (RT 8E).
During these meetings, PIC leaders will discuss current activities and work to
develop new project ideas. Two new PICs are now in the formation stages.
Meetings are planned for each:
* Scientific Communication--Wednesday, June 9, 8:30-10:00 (WE 9E).
* Technical Translation and Software Localization--Wednesday, June 9,
8:30-10:00 (WE 10D).
In addition to these PIC meetings, two new events are planned:
* PIC Reception--Monday, June 7, 5:30-6:30. Come to the Grand Ballroom and
enjoy wine, cheese, and lively conversation; meet other PIC members, or
start the process of beginning a new PIC.
* PICnic Networking Luncheon--Tuesday, June 8, 12:00-2:00. STC's Networking
Luncheon has been such a success that the conference planners have added a
new networking event with a new twist. The PICnic Networking Luncheon
will offer information about STC's professional interest committees, as
well as yet another opportunity to get together to and "work that net."
As you can see, there's a lot going at this year's annual conference. Where
to start? Well, just take your PIC!
