ie. computer literacy. Jeanie Crain asked for a few cites on this. A few come
to mind immediately, although I'm sure there are plenty of others:

"Redefining Literacy: The Multilayered Grammars of Computers." Cynthia Selfe.
In _Critical Perspectives on Computers and Composition Instruction." Eds.
Hawisher and Selfe. New York: Teachers College Press, 1989. (There are other
interesting articles in the book).

"What Computer Experience to Expect of Technical Writing Students Entering a
Computer Classroom: The Case of Purdue Students." Patricia Sullivan._Journal
of Technical Writing and Communication_ Vol. 19 (1) 53-68, 1989. (A real
interesting study of technical writing students, technical and non-)

_Word Perfect: Literacy in the Computer Age_ Myron Tuman. University of
Pittsburgh Press, 1992. (A good place to start. Lots of other cites, too).

Maybe we can build a bibiliography on the subject.
