Hi,

This is Re:Interleaf Info Request

I have been involved on the receiving/request end of a setup using Interleaf
for processing/layout/printing, and I have mixed feelings towards it. However,
I should point out that I don't know how well these people are using the
system, nor what version of the software they're using, nor if their printer
setup has something to do with the quality. Since the volume is very high,
the printers are special items and require custom software.

It hasn't done really well in certain aspects, particularly managing simplex
or duplex printing, and the document management features, as far as tracking
storing and finding various parts of various manuals, seem to be pretty weak.

Again, I don't know how much of this is through falts in the software or
through misuse and sheer ignorance. I do know that in the world of document
processing or DTP, there really are no better choices than Interleaf or
FrameMaker (both of which have faults), especially at the workstation level
of operation. I would recommend FrameMaker more, only because I've used it
extensively.

I don't know anything about your company (or institution) but I would also
caution you about price. At the workstation level, anyway, these packages,
while they do EVERYTHING, they are Very expensive.

I can be more informative about FrameMaker if you're interested.
