Very. I've written manuals for PC products for two UK companies while
living in Holland. In both cases, software updates and drafts were sent
back and forth via modem. (Tip: get the fastest modem you can afford.)
The last two manuals I produced here for a Mac product were done entirely
from home -- the company was just beyond commuting distance (a round trip
of about three and a half hours); again, the modem proved its worth time and
time again.

You'll probably find that some companies actively encourage you to work
from home: they know you're far more productive. You'll find that others,
often those whose managers and supervisors have time to kill, will
be deliberately obstructive.
