I personally do not think that English should be the
"official" language of the United States. Language is a part
of culture, and to say that the official language is English
is to say that the official culture is european.

If you want to pass legislation passing a requirement that
the lanuguage of a warning must be in certain languages
(Spanish and English come to mind), I'm for it. Even though
I worked in northern Michigan, I always ordered bilingual
warning signs because of the number of migrant workers in the
area.

Frankly, I think that that manuals I produce should ALL be
bilingual.

But back to the question: NO! English alone should never be
the official language of this country.
