With the high volume of notes to this list and the limited amount of
time and storage space available for some of us to process these
notes, might it be possible for people to observe the following
courtesies?

o Please paraphrase, rather than copying (forwarding or including, depending
on your software), previous posts on the list. This reduces the amount
of information others have to read. In most cases, people are only
referring to 2 or 3 lines out of the average 35 lines in a typical post.

o If someone has already made your point, don't repeat it. Read through
all of the responses in your in-box before pressing the reply key.

o If you are having difficulty sending a private message to someone on the
list, please call them. It's unfair to ask 700-plus people to read a note
intended for one other person. STC members might refer to their
directories, mailed this September, for contact information about
other subscribers.

o Refrain from editing and nitpicking other people's posts. To be honest,
while some people find such responses to be cute, I find such behavior to
be demeaning and insulting to an undeserving colleague.

Although I recognize that TECHWR-L is an informal discussion group, I would
hope that we exercise some of our skill we use in our professional lives to
the way we communicate on this discussion list.
