In response to Penny Cass, who does indeed have a difficult assignment:

Penny -- Your work seems very similar to abstracting. I write abstracts
for clients who produce journals and large annual proceedings and, when
I come across an author-written abstract for a paper or journal article
that is very well written, my clients allow me to insert the following:
"This abstract is an edited version of the author's original" (indicating
that I have used much of the author's own words).

BTW, when you develop an abstract, the basic "formula" is to analyze five
main elements in the paper: (1) objectives and scope, (2) methodology,
(3) results, (4) conclusions, and (5) other (supportive) information.

If the text of Ted Strong's seminar is as holistic as the title of his
presentation, then I would recommend that you edit his own words just
enough to keep the integrity of his presentation and abandon the effort
to fit it into any sort of formula.

And, finally, altho' I'm currently up to my eyeballs in work, I'll
volunteer to do a quick copyedit for you if you can e-mail the text
to me.
