Interesting. I have a copy of a thesis written in 1991 by Ellen Spertus
(then) of MIT, in which she objected to these kinds of "affirmative
action" tactics as being counter productive, "Thus, in attempting to
encourage women, people sometimes end up implicitly insulting them."

Having said that, I have in my posession only a hardcopy of the thesis,
and have been unable to find the original softcopy again since. It is
86 pages. The thesis is titled, "Why are There so Few Female Computer
Scientists?" by Ellen Spertus, MIT, January, 1991.
