According to one of my Penguin computer dictionaries at home, IBM did invent
"Sequel," which turned into the generic "structured query language" or SQL. No
trademark on SQL.

My question was, does Sequel still exist? Does anyone own the name Sequel? And
if so, does an ORAL use constitute trademark infringement or something? This is
a theoretical question, and not a very serious one.... Yet. Considering the
degree to which companies sue one another over trivia in the U.S., it may come
up sometime.
