July Meeting

TAXES AND THE CONTRACTOR

The San Francisco chapter of the Society for Technical Communication
presents two speakers on tax status. Chris England, Writers Inc.,
will discuss the pros and cons of contracting as it relates to 1099
vs. W-2 tax status and will give an update on the Internal Revenue
Service's famous 20 questions. Karen Kellerman, a technical writing
contractor who testified at a state tax audit hearing in December,
1993, will speak on how employer-employee vs. independent contractor
relationships are determined. There will be ample opportunity for
questions from contractors and hiring managers.

WHEN: Wednesday, July 20, 1994
6:00 p.m.: Networking and hors d'oeuvres
6:45 p.m.: Program
Meetings are usually on the third Wednesday of the
month
