My own preference for =want= goes beyond the
mere lexical: =wish= sounds downright childish
to my ear, even silly. =Want= also sounds
like users actually have control over the
behavior of the product more than =wish= does,
which conjures up the notion of having to wish
=hard= enough for something to happen.
OTOH, "If you want to exit the program,
press <Alt><F4>" is definite and direct.
Even better is "To exit the program,
press <Alt><F4>." Write around the
problem!
