SHED graphics, aka the files produced by the SHED hypergraphics editor,
have nothing to do with RoboHelp. The SHED editor is availble from
a number of sources, including Microsoft (separately and in the WHAT
package), bulletin boards and online services, and Help development
tools.
I don't know why it makes the files smaller, but it does--even if you
don't add a single hypertext link to your graphic. The files produced
by the SHED editor, with a .SHG extension, are one of the few recognized
by the Help compiler.
WHAT, by the way, is a package called Windows Help Authoring Tools,
and is free from Microsoft. It is available on their BBS, as well as
other BBSs and online services. It contains the Help compilers, the SHED
editor, the Multiple Resolution Bitmap Compiler, a simple Help development
tool, several Word templates to assist with Help development, and the
Windows Help Authoring Guide (WHAG), a 500+ page tome (without graphics)
that is an excellent source of information.
