I would advise against both. By reading your sentences, I don't know
the whole story. It seems that you have to make the board ids
consecutive -- and something else -- before the bootstrap loader
will detect them. How about:
If the board ids are not consecutive and whatever else is important,
the bootstrap loader will not recognize some of the boards.
