I think you should study English composition until you're the very best
writer you can be. Study editing as well, the job sometimes comes as
Writer/Editor. Then, I would chose a technical field and study it well.
Most jobs require that you learn a lot about your technical area at work.
It's better not to be a total novice when you begin, and it will earn you
some respect.

Then, continue studying after you have the job. Be the best. Why settle
for less?
