Jan Boomsliter (boom -at- CADENCE -dot- COM) asks about INTECOM. It is the
International Council for Programs in Scientific and Technical
Communication and was founded in 1969. It has held 22 meetings since
then, the most recent in September in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. It is
an organization of organizations. Nine technical communication societies
from around the world hold membership with at least three more
interested. Socieites are STC (USA), IEEE PCS (USA/CANADA), Dantekom
(Denmark), tekom (Germany), ISTC (England), CRT (France), FTI (Sweden),
NFTI (Norway),STIC (Netherlands). Those interested are from Switzerland,
Australia, and South Africa.

Its meetings consist of either a General Assembly or Board of Officers
meeting. Both are open to visitors, who are encouraged to participate
in discussions about international technical communication and issues
related to our societies' members. INTECOM does sponsor FORUM--the
upcoming one in November, 1995 in Dortmund Germany. Four socieites in
INTECOM (STIC, ISTC, tekom, and IEEE PCS--with an assist from STC) are
planning it. FORUM is held every 5 years.

That should give you a brief overview. Let me know if you want more
information. (For example, INTECOM is developing new brochures, but I
have some of the old ones that I would be glad to send out. Just let me
know.)
