COORDINATOR OF COMMUNICATION:
Assistant Professor of Technical Communication


POSITION: Technical Communication. Rank open. TENURE
TRACK.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $40,000 for assistant professor. All
fringe benefits are paid, including TIAA/CREF (10%
of salary), life insurance, travel insurance, health
insurance (basic and major medical, family plan), and
tuition assistance for dependents.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in appropriate field. A strong
commitment to and experience in undergraduate teaching are
essential. Industrial experience and course work in science
or engineering desirable. Ability to work with technical
faculty important. Rose-Hulman is noted for pedagogical
innovation and persons interested in new teaching
strategies, cross-disciplinary instruction, and curriculum
development are particularly encouraged to apply.

SCHOOL: ROSE-HULMAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY is a private
college of science and engineering with 1300 undergraduate
students who are among the most academically talented in the
country. The median entering student has combined SAT
scores of 1220 and is in the upper 6% of his/her high school
class. National publications rank the school among the top
U.S. undergraduate engineering colleges. It is financially
sound, with an endowment of $90 million, and is enjoying
record applications. Excellent teaching is the first
requirement for tenure; no TAs are used in the classroom.

The school takes pride in providing "a liberal education in
science and engineering" and in its strong humanities and
social sciences faculty. Professional development is
actively encouraged and supported.

DESCRIPTION: Position responsibilities include teaching two
courses in technical communication each quarter--class sizes
are thirty or less--and coordinating the Institute-wide
program in technical communication. In the latter role,
he/she will devote 1/3 time each quarter working with
technical faculty, team teaching in technical courses,
arranging workshops and otherwise promoting improved
communication skills.
