Up in the Northland (Minnesota), we called our mothers "Mom." Someone
mentioned that audience makes a difference. I tend to agree. If I'm
introducing her to someone, I say, "This is my mother, Colleen."
And for my father, he's always been "Dad."
I live in Kansas now, Toto, and I haven't noticed any difference. I retract
that statement. The difference is in how they pronounce the word "aunt."
