I submit that:
Someone who is a master at something, as opposed to an apprentice or
journeyman, is a master at whatever it is.
In modern usage, the word "master" is not gender-specific; same as
"bartender," "lawyer," "doctor," despite the (possibly inadvertent)
sexism promulgated by newswriters when they refer to SOME
bartenders/lawyers/doctors as "female" bartenders, etc., and others as
plain barten...."
What say ye?
