I see this a lot, and I HATE it. I have always assumed it was some sort of goofy
business jargon, like using interface to refer to a conversation between two
people. However, I just looked it up in my old Webster's Collegiate, and as a
secondary definition of task, it says "vt: to assign a task to". So I guess
it's correct.
