Nor do equations have right and wrong sides. Yet many people - and not
just 7th graders - who have trouble with the mathematical concept of
equality sometimes use that kind of language when talking about
equations. Thus, using the word "hand" in these circumstances can
enhance understanding, or at least discourage misconceptions.
