I'm posting this notice at the request of the CCCC-IP listowner. I'm on the
list, and there's some really good discussion about intellectual property
issues going on.

ANNOUNCING A NEW LIST: CCCC-IP

A new LISTSERV group has been created for the purpose of discussing
intellectual property issues pertaining to composition instruction and
research.

The CCCC-IP list (Intellectual Property Caucus Discussion List)
focuses on rhetorical, ethical, and legal issues pertaining to the use
of print and electronic materials in writing classes. Issues of
concern include the ways that teachers use and distribute materials in
class (e.g., textbooks, online information, coursepacks, student
writing); the uses of students' (and others') writing for purposes of
research and publication; and, generally, copyright, fair use, and
attribution of electronic and print resources.

Because the focus of the list is the use of print and electronic
materials in research and teaching on writing, we welcome the
participation of publishers, lawyers, librarians, information
designers, technical writers, and anyone with a curiosity, interest,
or expertise in matters of intellectual property, even if they are not
writing teachers.

This discussion list is an offshoot of the "Caucus on Intellectual
Property and Composition Studies," a group which meets every year at
the CCCC (Conference on College Composition and Communication). The
Caucus is intended to develop policy statements and to promote other
kinds of organizational and legislative action in support of writing
teachers' interests. The CCCC-IP list will be used, in part, as a
forum for discussing Caucus action. If you have questions about or
would like to participate in the 1996 Caucus at the CCCC in Milwaukee,
WI, contact the Caucus Co-Chair, Jim Porter
(JPORTER -at- MACE -dot- CC -dot- PURDUE -dot- EDU).

To subscribe to CCCC-IP send the following one-line message to the
group LISTSERV address (LISTSERV -at- UMINN1 -dot- BITNET or
LISTSERV -at- VM1 -dot- SPCS -dot- UMN -dot- EDU):

If you have questions about the CCCC-IP discussion list, contact the
listowner (and Caucus Co- Chair), Laura Gurak
(GURAKL -at- EPX -dot- CIS -dot- UMN -dot- EDU).
