Techwhirlers,
We're trying to determine what format our cross-references should take:
are there any usability studies? With FrameMaker, we have almost limitless
possibilities - references to pages, section heads, sections numbers,
chapters, tables, figures, etc. all take the same amount of work.
In the past, referencing specific pages was avoided; I suspect the reason was
the overhead involved with what was largely a manual process. Does anyone
have other reasons? What would readers prefer? Please send your opinions
and/or references to any literature on the subject.
